Paper Switch Off Has Arrived – You May Need to Take Action

From 1st May 2018 both Sheffield Teaching Hospital and Sheffield Children’s Hospital will reject ROUTINE referrals to a consultant-led service* which practices have sent on paper.

Your practice must therefore:

1. Monitor the WORKFLOW tab within your GP system daily for notification that you have a rejected referral.

2. If it was a referral for an adult you must email STHFT on sht-tr.paperswitchoffgpconfirmation@nhs.net and inform them you have received the rejection and will re-book the patient on eRS within 3 days.

3. For both children and adults you must re-book the patient using the eRS system asap (or within 3 days).

The above requirements apply to routine referrals only from 1 May 2018 but will also apply to Urgent and 2 week-wait referrals over the coming weeks – we will keep you informed of key dates for this phase of paper switch off.

Please remember that ROUTINE referrals into Cardiology, Dermatology, ENT, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology, Respiratory, Urology can be sent via CASES who will support you by ensuring the patient is booked an appointment in the correct clinic based on their service knowledge. All 7 CASES specialties are easy to find on eRS.
