NHS England & NHS Improvement North Regions has produced this Support Pack for GP Practices Re-starting Annual Health Checks for people with learning disabilities (LD).
Sadly on average men with LD die 23 years earlier than men without a LD and for women it’s 27 years earlier. Annual Health Checks (and the follow up interventions) are an important way to reduce these longstanding health inequalities.
Practices have now been advised nationally that annual health checks for people with a LD need to continue, using ‘blended’ (i.e. combined face to face/remote) approaches during COVID. The Pack provides practical guidance on how to do this, including in relation to triggering the DES Payment.
The Pack includes reference to the need to 1) send out pre-health check questionnaires to patients, and 2) agree a local Risk Prioritisation approach. Sheffield Physical Health Implementation Group has produced local guidance on these two requirements – see also on Press Portal: Annual health checks for people with learning disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic – guidance for primary care
